Re: would you lie?

I agree that this is a difficult issue and I would probably handle it the way many pp have said by just volunteering as little information as possible ahead of time. They will assume what they want and you can go about your business without all those extra headaches you don't need. I know that is the best policy with my ils for sure because they can make things difficult for sure if they don't approve. Also, I would decide about a visitng schedule ahead of time and let them know as soon as possible when you will want to have guest s to meet the baby. They might take this hard (mine sure did) but when they understood we were serious about having some time to bond just as a family they dealt with it and once they saw ds all else was mostly forgotten.

Re: would you lie?

Lying about it just makes it seem like you are doing something wrong which is totally not the case. Grandparents had their chance at raising kids and can sit back quietly and respect the decisions you and DH make. Could you call them and tell them (after baby arrives) that you've had the baby and would love for them to come meet the LO in a week (or month or whatever works for you)? Do you have any friends that could help with your older child? And you never know - MIL might be really into the idea of a homebirth if she's there as a support person.
