Lets talk Scraps!

I am doing some sorting/organization as I am off of work for a week. My DH got me a hutch for the dinning room and the lower half I am going to using for my sewing machine/serger/fabric/supplies/etc. (although I am sure it won't even half fit).

What kind of scraps do you ladies keep? Smallest sizes? How do you organize them? And the ultimate question, do you ever actually use them? And for what?

I have lots of flannel scraps! And a fair amount of other types of fabrics. I would feel bad to just throw them out, but what can I use them for if I keep them?

Re: Lets talk Scraps!

My rule is I never keep anything smaller than my hand for sewing BUT I keep cotton/natural fabric scraps up to 1 bag full for stuffing toys..

I have been quilting for 15 years. I used to keep everything over 5 in square or strips 3 in or wider. Then after a decade I had a gigantic scrap pile and ZERO interest in actually making a scrap quilt. I found that I occasionally pulled from pieces larger than a fat quarter. Last summer I cleaned out anything smaller than 1/2 yard, unless it was part of a designated project. I have been sewing almost exclusively from my stash for 2 years, and I don't miss my scraps at all.

Re: Lets talk Scraps!

I always saved scraps and never used them. Just last month I found this tutorial on pinterest: and now I have made dozens of bows from all my random scraps. You only need a 4"X6" (ish) scrap to make a bow.
