Re: SEVERELY chapped lips. What to do?

If they are this bad, I would put some Neosporin on them at night to heal it up. Once it is healed, the barrier stuff works for prevention. I don't think barrier stuff works well for healing up cracked and bleeding lips.

Re: SEVERELY chapped lips. What to do?

I've had that problem since childhood. Nothing works, nothing. It's worse in winter. I can put chap stick (natural, lanolin, vaseline, I've tried everything) on all the time but they still peel (though less likely to bleed). It's embarrassing sometimes and it's worse when I"m pregnant. Perhaps a humidifier in his room?

Bag balm is rock on too. It is made to clear up chapped cow udders. My dad swears by it for healing anything.

I'd use lanolin. Or I'd actually make a lip balm with coconut oil, beeswax and go heavy on lanolin, plus put a bit of tto in it.

You need a barrier and lanolin is a fantastic barrier, with the added bonus of not tasting good.

THIS! Lansinoh is awesome on chapped lips. It works miracles over night. Like Vaseline it forms a barrier.

On a side note, it is also great below the nose when it gets raw and irritated from too much nose blowing.

Re: SEVERELY chapped lips. What to do?

Most chapstick-type products are proven to cause drier lips (whether from the ingredients or from kids licking lips more often due to the gloss being there). I would cut that part out.

Agree with the lanolin/lansinoh type product (or vaseline, but it doesn't stay put as well). Get the lips wet first, then apply the lansinol (so there is moisture to get sucked into the lips without drying them more), then repeat throughout the day.

As a PP mentioned, you'll likely need to break your son of the lip-picking habit, too.

Good luck!

Can u try rewards for not picking? Good luck.
