Thanks. I'll try that if the carmex seems to stop helping!

Does that make sense? My head hurts. I know what I meant. LOL

God bless!

I haven't heard of this one. Where can I buy it?

You need a barrier and lanolin is a fantastic barrier, with the added bonus of not tasting good.
Where can I buy beeswax?

God bless!

We bought the Carmex and started using it today. It looks a lot better and he's not picking as much!

God bless!

Re: SEVERELY chapped lips. What to do?

I would avoid Carmex...it has camphor in it which is toxic to children. I would avoid all drugstore brands as they are mostly chemical..including vaseline...made from petrolium...aka petrol an toxic oil by-product.

Honestly for lips that get licked and picked alot...apply something that is moisturizing and edible. My new favourite product is so riduculously cheap and the BEST... I bought these for everyone for xmas.
http://www.iherb.com/Cococare-100-Cocoa-Butter-The-Yellow-Stick-1-oz-28-g/5833 It is a big FAT stick that can be used anywhere..but I love it for lips!!! Smells and tastes like chocolate so and easy sell for kids...

Check my signature for a coupon code to get it free...

Re: SEVERELY chapped lips. What to do?

We have this problem every winter with at least one kid - they tend to outgrow the constant licking their lips outside in the cold by 9 or 10 years old.
We just get them to put vaseline on their lips before bed every night, then use lipsyl through the day (easier for them to carry in their pockets), until their lips feel better. Rinse and repeat, lol.
Lanolin would work really well too, likely.

The problem with some lipsyls too is that they taste good to kids, so that makes them lick their lips more - not helping the problem.

What else can I do? Do I really need to have a trip to the pediatrician's office over a case of chapped lips?

Thanks

This has probably been answered but lansinoh lanolin (yep the nipple stuff) is the ONLY thing that's worked for me. And staying hydrated.

Re: SEVERELY chapped lips. What to do?

I 2nd the PP that mentioned a lanolin allergy. I can not use anything with lanolin in it as it will cause severe chapping and bleeding.

I get really awful cold sores on my lips that crack and bleed and the area if course is very swollen. I LOVE Neosporin lip therapy. It is very healing and will help keep away any infection. For everyday use, I use EOS. It is organic and makes my lips feel so nice.

Also, increasing fluid intake will help as will a humidifier at night. Most children are chronic lip lickers once they get to that awful dry, red, raw, cracked phase. Heck with just children... I lick my lips to death when they get that bad.

Good luck momma! Once you can get the healing to begin, your LO should do much better!
