Re: SEVERELY chapped lips. What to do?

I have had chapped, peeling lips most of my life.

I find if they get bad, using a mixture of A&D ointment and triple antibiotic ointment works wonders.

The rest of the time I use A&D ointment.

We use the combo on our patients all the time to help with dryness and scabbing.

Re: SEVERELY chapped lips. What to do?

So the Carmex was working great during the day, but at night they got really bad again.

So bought lanolin at the grocery store today. Started putting on DS1's lips. We'll see how it works over night tonight.

Next step will be CJ's... where do I get it?

God bless!

Thank you! I will try this if the Lanolin is a fail for overnight!

God bless!

Honestly for lips that get licked and picked alot...apply something that is moisturizing and edible. My new favourite product is so riduculously cheap and the BEST... I bought these for everyone for xmas.

Didn't know that about the Carmex!
Hope I didn't accidentally poison DS!

I'll look into that product. Thank you.

Thank you. I just picked some up today to try.
DS has been using it with no problem since I got home with it. The REAL test will be over night. We get his lips looking decent during the day, but then over night they are crazy bad again.

I've been using it on MY lips this afternoon... feels good!
God bless!

I get really awful cold sores on my lips that crack and bleed and the area if course is very swollen. I LOVE Neosporin lip therapy. It is very healing and will help keep away any infection. For everyday use, I use EOS. It is organic and makes my lips feel so nice.

Also, increasing fluid intake will help as will a humidifier at night. Most children are chronic lip lickers once they get to that awful dry, red, raw, cracked phase. Heck with just children... I lick my lips to death when they get that bad.

Good luck momma! Once you can get the healing to begin, your LO should do much better!
What is EOS and where do I get it?

No lanolin allergies here so far.. I used a wool cover with DS3 and he had no reactions. And I've used the Lansinoh on my nipples with all three boys, and no adverse affects. So I'm pretty sure we'd be ok on that front.

I didn't know Neosporin made a lip treatment. I'll look into that next time I'm at the store. Thanks!

God bless!

Re: SEVERELY chapped lips. What to do?

When they get bad have him put diaper rash cream on his lips. It needs to contain zinc.
His lips will be white, but it will soak in. When it does have him put more on.

My 8 yr old get a bleeding crack in the middle of his bottom lip every winter that just does not heal and then when it does it starts all over again. I took him to the ped last winter and she said to use the diaper cream.
It does work, and because his lips are white, when it soaks in it reminds you to reapply.
I have him use it once he gets home from school and over night, and all weekend. He likes the butt paste the best.
