Is a head rest in a mei tai necessary?

I'm trying to decide between 2 mt's. One is a bh which has the headrest and the other is an Ellabelly which does not. I personally like the Ellabelly better but I'm wondering if not having the headrest will just be a big problem for when dd falls asleep. OR, does it really make no difference???

imo, having a headrest is necessary because like you said, when they fall asleep you are going to want it. You can always hold their head up with your hand but that's kind of a pita if you are out and about somewhere and you are going to be doing that for a long period of time

im wondering also, especially if it would be more necessary for back wearing where you can not hold the head up yourself!

There is also the freehand universal hood/headrest you can use with any mei tai if you really need head support

I prefer some sort of headrest/hood for sleeping Los especially when they get older and are on my back, its a must have.

I've only ever really used mine to shield the sun. I haven't worn DS much since he's been 20 lbs though so if you are planning on wearing into toddlerhood it might be a good idea.
