I'm trying this out on some diapers tonight. No stink issue but recently DS had diarrhea and about 5 diapers are stained yellow because of it. I tried bleach with detergent. That didn't work on those stubborn stains. And then I tried a soak with oxy clean and the the heavily stained ones didn't budge. So I am trying this. Hoping it works, because of course, some of those diapers were new.

I added vinegar to a bucket with diapers in it. Filled it up till covered. Added the oxy clean and it started bubbling instantly. It bubbled over the bucket. It did not smoke. Crossing fingers it helps with those stains! I'll report back tomorrow with an update

UPDATE: it lessened the stains but I have one diaper where the stains are still there just not as dark. I think this will work with most stains, but for his loose stools on bigger patches it's very hard to get out. At least it helped a little bit

Re: OxyClean + Vinegar -----> WOWSA!!

Quick Q without searching this whole long thread...can I do this on natural fibers? They hold stink worse than my MF for some reason.

I had tried this on some used microfiber I got a while back and it didn't seem to do anything. I was kinda disappointed, but I wonder if those inserts were too far gone.

Is this process okay on my super cute (expensive, like Goodmama expensive) fitteds?
Doing it on my PFs tomorrow!!! Any idea how many jugs of vinegar I'll need for 30 PFs?

Re: OxyClean + Vinegar -----> WOWSA!!

This is the thread I was looking for!!! My overnights (they're pockets, but I usually stuff with the same inserts & folds) have so bad an ammonia I could smell him from a room away. AND his bottom is very pink & red :-(. I'm so excited I'm going to drag them up to the store so I can get a bunch of vinegar. I'm telling DD5 it's a science experiment :-D

Re: OxyClean + Vinegar -----> WOWSA!!

I went with option #2, doing them directly in the laundry tub, since I wanted to do all of my inserts/prefolds (about 25+). They were already wet from a couple pre-washes. I poured in an entire gallon of vinegar and it didn't cover them entirely, so I added just enough hot water to barely cover them. I did a couple full scoops of Oxyclean, and once I swished it around, I did see all the foaming action.

I let them sit overnight and started running lots of flushes this morning. It's gonna take awhile (like maybe all day), there's LOTS o' suds....

Re: OxyClean + Vinegar -----> WOWSA!!

I'm not sure it's safe to mix vinegar and oxiclean... one of the ingredients in oxiclean is hydrogen peroxide (h2O2) and vinegar and h2o2 makes peroxyacetic acid. In high concentrations, it can be highly corrosive and cause irritation to the skin, eyes and respiratory system. Long-term exposures to the substance can cause permanent lung damage. So, perhaps do this outside only? wear gloves and a respirator? just be careful folks.
