Dress Up Clothes

I always have grand plans to hit up the Halloween section after Halloween for cheap dress up clothes, but I always forget. So I would like to get the kids some dress up clothes now. Preferably not just princess stuff, but firemen, police, doctor, knights, all that stuff too. The Melissa and Doug stuff looks great, but at $25 an outfit, I'd be looking at $200 if I bought all the dress up stuff I'm hoping for. Anyone else have any dress up kits they like from TRU or Amazon or some other store? Or should I just bide my time until Halloween 2013 is over?

Maybe check at Once Upon a Child? My MIL got us lots at yard sales, but it is not really yard sale time right now.

Re: Dress Up Clothes

I would check out teacher supply stores, like Discount School Supply. I don't know if they'll be that much cheaper than Melissa and Doug, though. Maybe get a couple of full costumes, and then supplement with a set of hats? My son seems to like to just wear the hats.

If you post on Facebook, I'll bet some friends with older kids probably have some they'd like to get rid of...

At the consignment sales around here, there's always a costume section.

I'd try yard sales and thrift shops. If you're handy at all with a sewing machine you could make some things too.

Re: Dress Up Clothes

I've acquired quite a collection from garage sales, consignment stores, and freebies on craigslist & freecycle. In total I haven't spent more than $20-$30 and it all fits in 3 huge rubbermade totes. A lot of it ended up being listed as Halloween stuff, and it actually gets listed now and again throughout the year, not just right after halloween.
