Expecting again after gap - your tips and tricks?

My son is about to turn five and we're expecting again now in May (a girl!). I just found all my cloth diapers from before, and I will need to replace a few, plus get some things to cover the early period (everything I have is 15/16 lb and up). Since it's been so long and I see from poking around that a lot has changed even in these few years, I was hoping maybe to get some general advice, tips and tricks, etc., while I read up on all the stickies and seemingly related threads?

For example, I have a ton of microfiber inserts, but honestly, I hate the feeling of microfiber on my hands and I think I'd like to replace them. I saw a thread on possibly using receiving blankets (!!!). Any other tips?

Thanks so much in advance!

and as a new knitter, I am really excited at having just learned about "longies" from one of the threads.

Flats have picked up in popularity to stuff with......they r cheap, OS, durable, easy to wash. Even though I bought new due to the gap between kids Im not using microfiber except on a few sized aio, once those are outgrown.....I'm doing simpler this time around.

I hate the way microfiber feels too! Like nails on a chalkboard IMO. I would suggest stuffing with prefolds or flats if you are goi to go the pocket diaper route.

Flats are a great option for the NB stage as well as stuffing later on.

There are so many natural fiber diapers out there that you really do not need MF

I have about 14 pockets from before, all in good shape, so I figure I will! I had a ton of prefolds but don't know where they've gotten off to. I remember before when my son was small, I used prefolds and covers and then used those prefolds as inserts later on when he was bigger. Will look into flats, too. I'm glad I'm not alone in microfiber dislike!

Flats or prefolds as inserts in the pockets you already have would be economical and work really well. We have a gap, too, and are loving the excitement of a new baby after so long! Good luck!

I hate microfiber, too! Loved prefolds and fitteds for the newborn stage

Re: Expecting again after gap - your tips and tricks?

My son was 9lb and the baby girl is already measuring big (oh, my back). I guess I should go for fitteds in the 8-16lb range to start? I think I started with disposables last time because I was scared about belly button coverage, but now I want to stay away from disposables altogether. Any other tips for the early stages?
