Midwife question

So I got my BFP today!! TTC'd for 7 months, and we were TTA until March..SURPRISE! Lol

Anyways, I am looking for a midwife. I used an OB with my last pregnancy. What would be your personal distance/time travel limit for a midwife?

The plan is a homebirth, so no travel while in labor.

45 minutes. And my midwife comes to me for all prenatals. Last midwife I used was over an hour away and that was too far.

The OBs and MWs here are all in town - 45 minutes drive away. We're used to that drive, though - errands, groceries, church every week - so it's not a big deal.

If we were going with the MWs and considering a homebirth, it wouldn't be doable though - they require you be within 10-15mins of the hospital in case of transfer.

Re: Midwife question

I was going to go an hour away, but found a midwife only 5 minutes away that has privileges at the birth center I want to go to (birth center is just over an hour away).
The doctor and hospital we used with our second child was 45 minutes away, we live in a rural area so everything is a bit far.

Re: Midwife question

My midwife lived 35 minutes away but runs a birth center 10 minutes away. We also live within 5 minutes of one hospital and 10 minutes to another. I'd want to be within 30 minutes of a hospital for a homebirth and I was comfortable with the 35 minutes that she lived away from me even though we were anticipating a fast labor. I called her at the first contraction and she got there about 45 minutes before he was born.

Re: Midwife question

For baby #2 our midwife policy was 1 hour from where their office was to our house. We got lucky with most of the time being freeway. We did have to drive to their office for each appointment, unlike all the other MWs in our area who would have come to our home for each appointment. We lived 2-5 mins (depending on red or green lights) from the hospital as well.
