Re: January - Come share your goals and progress!

I'm late but I'll be jumping back in tomorrow! I am overwhelmed with STUFF since getting back home from an 18 day trip visiting family over the holidays. In the spring/summer we will have sprinklings of 5-6 GROUPS of people (1-4 people each 'group') coming to visit for 4-7 days. The only way I will be able to survive that is if I can get organized & decluttered first. We have a 1200sq ft duplex.

Dp is taking the girls to the store tomorrow with him (45 minutes each way) so I will get a little bit of empty house time too.

Nothing else is getting done tonight BUT tomorrow/Sunday I need to:
-Finish unpacking from trip
-Do the shelves in the bathroom
-Linen closet
-MY closet & dresser - I bought new shirts & underwear so I need to get rid of the extras as well as all clothing I don't REGULARLY wear (except dresses & out of season things since I only have a couple.
-Organize books in the girls room
-Downsize both girls wardrobes
-Organize 'to grow into' bins for the girls in the basement
-Make sure I'm not accidentally pg & get rid of maternity clothes/downsize my jic we change our mind on being done infant clothing
-put baby items for sale
-Do the two drawers in the kitchen
-Toy shelves AGAIN
-Wash the floors

Re: January - Come share your goals and progress!

You guys are all so organized with your lists... I'm just trying to keep up most days, but I have managed to get a couple things done this month...

*Cleaned out under our bed- huge tub of trophies to donate, a few pairs of shoes I didn't know I had to donate

*Used the tub the trophies were in to clean up the girls' dress up clothes and got their room *fairly* organized

*Decided to donate a bunch of costumes I've been saving for who knows what... So that's 3 or 4 garbage bags gone!

*Finally finished sorting books I've had put away in another room for months... 5 boxes going to half price tomorrow to see if they'll buy any of them! Fingers crossed!

*Two boxes of donations (Christmas stuff cleared out, random craft stuff cleaned out, etc)

Still need to do a ton of purging before baby comes!

*Sort through clothes that are too small for YDD (most should go)
*Sort through boxes in spare room
*Sort through school supplies
*Sell off tulle, wings, etc (STILL have this hanging around- multiple buyers have fallen through, driving me CRAZY!)
*Get scarves/hats/gloves from inventory actually listed on ebay- if they don't sell after a set period donate or sell as lot
*Purge craft stuff I'll never get to

I've also hit a hard spot with toys... we still have way more than we need, but they're all really nice wood/handmade/vintage/etc (well, except their balls, but they play with those every day soooo)...

I'm sure there's a ton more...

Here is the after! The first one is all the stuff that went into the attic, and there was one huge "get rid of" box. It is definitely not done. I mean, notice the crib has no crib mattress. We cosleep and the mattress is in the floor beside our bed. So, we will have to reevaluate, but this is still 1000% better. I will do the reevaluation in May when I'm off work and before the new babe comes in June.

Re: January - Come share your goals and progress!

We're just joining in. We've got a LOT to do, but I'm going to try not to be too ambitious this month. We're going for a slow start and as soon as we know if my boyfriend gets his new job, that's when we're going to kick it into high gear. If he gets this new job we'll be able to get some new furniture to help us out. You never realize how useful dressers are until you don't have them!

Anyhow, my goals for this month? We're getting rid of all the junk our former neighbors asked us to hold on to for them and never came back for. We've got a broken TV in my daughter's room that's going to have to be dismantled and taken out. We're going through all our clothes to get rid of anything that doesn't fit, anything ripped, anything that doesn't work for us anymore, or just doesn't get worn. All of my daughter's toy box is going out, so she'll only have her two dolls, some stuffed animals, and the doll clothes. We've got a lot of stuff that just needs to go. I know it may not seem like much, but in reality, it's a lot! We've got a lot of stuff still!

Re: January - Come share your goals and progress!

Ugh this weekend is not going as well as I'd like. Dp is moving slow which means EVERYTHING is. Bah. I wish he was onboard with minimalism - we had a talk about the kitchen and putting away more dishes that we can bring out when we have visitors but he is against that and told me not to touch the kitchen =(
