Re: to eat or toss?

eat it, it's fine.

the seafood in any canned prodects are soooooo over processed that there is no fear of ickies from it.

dh (who works at the nations largest organic food distributor) says that just because it has an expiration date on it doesn't mean it has to be tossed on that date. What is the can going to combust as soon as midnight hits on that date? no.

they put the dates on the items because it was government issued...they are sell by dates/best by...not must eat by, etc.

just like with eggs...you still have at least 1.5 weeks after the best by date before they actually go icky.

Well to update we did eat it the other night. I did heat it to boil for a while. It smelled and looked just like the fresh can I had. It tasted good and no one even had a tummy ache.

Re: to eat or toss?

It's a relief to know that it still tastes good. I'll just toss it and cook a REAL seafood chowder. Some seafood canned goods are HIGH in sodium so I'm not going to feed my family with these stuff.

Eat it. It's just barely out of date.

This seems unnecessary.

Re: to eat or toss?

I toss most things that are past their date. But, I have had salmonella and was sick for 6 months, so I am super careful.

Ah we don't eat foods that are canned because they tend to be high in sodium.

But going on the topic, I would toss it given that it has already expired. Better be safe than sorry.

I am the same way. I do not take any risks when it comes to potential food poisoning.
