Re: How mainstream is cloth in your area?
I don't get out much or know anybody other than an object and the pediatrician hah. So, it might be a little more common, but I've only seen one ad on Craigslist for cloth ( haven't checked in a few months) no one in person, and another recruiters wife that lives 45 mins away ( never met her) but she cloth diapers.

Re: How mainstream is cloth in your area?
Off topic but I have to giggle a bit when I read people living in cities with populations in the hundered thousand range saying small city area. I always thought of that as the big city. I grew up in a town of 7000. It was one of the bigger towns in the area. To find another town bigger you had to travel more than an hour away. Most towns were only 1-2000. A few were only a couple hundred. When I was 15 we moved to a town of 100. No PO box key needed. The postal lady would have your mail waiting on the counter for you. We had no key to our house and left our car keys in the ignition so as to not lose the keys.
In my previous post I forgot to mention one of our WIC ladies is very pro cloth diapering. She out of her own pocket gives out cloth diapers to anyone who shows the least interest but doesn't have the money to buy them.

Re: How mainstream is cloth in your area?
I wouldn't say it's mainstream here, but we definitely live in a crunchy-friendly area. It's kind of a rural area so the only place there is to buy diapers locally is at a consignment store or at the market (where one person sells diapers). I see some posts for cloth on craigslist but I think most people buy online. I know a few mamas who CD and others who are interested.

Re: How mainstream is cloth in your area?
Not mainstream, surprisingly. I have a cousin that lives here that CDs, and I saw a baby once in a fuzzibunz. That's it - the entire 5 years I've lived here.
I do know that there are a few DS mamas where I live too, though!

Re: How mainstream is cloth in your area?
I do not know many people around here that CD. The closest CD store is 200 miles (about 3 1/2 hours) away and it is the only one that I know of "in the area." People think I'm crazy for wanting to CD and the others that I know get the same comments. Homeschooling isn't popular around here either and comes with a stigma/stereotype but I'm still planning on homeschooling my kids. Actually, my CDing friends and I have been talking about starting up a HS group together as we all have backgrounds in education, our kids are all around the same age, and we all want to HS our kids. I live in a small town of about 1,200 people where seeing Amish buggies driving down the road does not make you look twice.

I live pretty close to Portland OR and its quite popular around here. I know more Mamas who use cloth then who dont. We just visited a new church for one week and 2 out of 3 Mamas in the cry room used cloth. We have a Cotton Babies store in my town, and Portland has like 3? So I think pretty main stream around here.
