'The talk' for uninterested older kids?

My mom bought me a cartoon type book that was mostly about getting your period, but it was geared for girls. She was always super open and talked often, but I was super embarrassed with any talk we had. The boom was great because I could read it in the privacy of my room. I don't think it takes the place of a talk, but gave me the option to learn at my own pace.
