Tmi alwrt: For those who would have eaten it, I bet it is because they haven't had a serious case of food poisoning. I had salmonella and have arthritis and long lasting complications to my health, like many food allergies. There are studies that suggest 30 percent of people who had a case of salmonella have reactive arthritis and food allergies. A can of soup isn't worth the risk. A small case of food poisoning might make you sick for a day, but I was so sick I spent my entire summer on the couch and the rest of the time vomiting and horrible diarrhea. Most of the summer, I held a trash to vomit while I also had the other, so incredibly horrible. I know it was so bad, I wanted to die. I still remember it. Botulism can be in canned goods and it can really be horrible. I am only 33 and I often cry at night because my arthritic knees and shoulders are so bad. I have had health problems my whole life.

I agree with this. When I was young my mom got food poisoning that landed her in icu for 3 weeks. She almost died. Food poisoning can be serious. I never eat questionable food.

I had food poising once that left me weak for days but not icu sick. I would have tossed it.

Food poisoning is awful. I've had it twice. But it's really really really unlikely to be from canned goods in still sealed cans. If food really went bad on the day of the expiry date,the companies would make the expiry date WAY earlier than the real expiry date in order to avoid liability.

The food poisoning I've had was both times from food courts from chicken that was under heat lamps. It obviously hadn't been kept hot enough. I don't eat in foot courts anymore unless they cook the food in front of me.

You can get botulism from canned goods and it can be very deadly.

But botulism would be present from the start, it wouldn't appear as the canned good aged. The "expiration" date on commercial canned goods is merely a best buy date. The quality begins to degrade at the point, it doesn't become dangerous to eat. My husband is on immuno-suppresants for life, I've had to sit through many food safety classes because of his status... I am not the least bit concerned about canned soup 3 months past it's date.

If you're uncomfortable eating it, that's fine, I understand. But there's no proof that it's dangerous at all.

Eat it. Canned food lasts, forever. Expiration dates are a joke.
