How to try to avoid ppd?

I had awful ppd with DD and I didn't get help until she was like 9 months old. And I didn't go off my medication until last August. I'm deathly afraid that it'll happen again after this one arrives. Anyone have any tips? It was an awful time and I really don't want a repeat. I don't know anyone around here that can encapsulate my placenta. Any other ideas?
