Re: How big of a family

The best gift you can give to a child is brothers and sisters. Also, you want to always be able to meet all of their needs and some of their wants.

This is just how we're making the call though.

One and done.

DH and I don't believe the best gift is siblings, I'm not close with mine at all. They're toxic people that are best to keep at a distance. Admittedly, most sibling relationships aren't like mine and it does colour my decision.

Also, I hated being pregnant. Great birth though.

I want as many as dh will agree to. Right now he's said 4 is his limit (we currently have three) but I think I could talk him into one or two more than that especially when our kids get older and we don't have three in diapers at once and if they are spaced a bit further apart (ours are all less than 2 years apart).

Re: How big of a family

It's so hard to decide what to do. DH and I always said 2 babes. We don't want to ad to overpopulation, we figure we are leaving 2 people when we die etc etc.
It sure is nice to have as many hands as children, and to not be outnumbered.

We have 2 children, a daughter and a son, perfect!

But now that DS is getting close to 2 years old, I want another baby! And I absolutely love being pregnant.

We haven't ruled it out completely, but it really goes against what we thought was right for us. I think what it will come down to will be finances...

Wow, that wasn't helpful! Sorry, but thanks for letting me vent!

I have trouble with this myself. I always said I wanted six. But the reality is that children are harder and more costly than I thought. DH usually says he's up for whatever I want, but I think he'd be happy being done with the three we have. I still feel like there's room for at least one more, so I'm hoping to talk to him about adding a fourth.

I have three, but the man I'm about to marry doesn't have any of his own. We'd like to have 2-3 more, but we don't have a set number. We'll just see how we feel and how things go. We both want a big family, though.

Re: How big of a family

Sometimes I'm done and sometimes I ache for more, depends on the day or time of day.
I will never be able to make the final call, I could never say no to a baby. I'm glad it is not mine to make, it is in God's hands.

On the side: I'm the oldest of 13 and my dh is the 2nd youngest of 10. We both come from big familys and had amazing childhoods.

Looks like we will be having 3 kiddos based on a conversation we had last night. We have 1 DD right now. I feel like if we ha another daughter next I could be done (though maybe not...I've always thought 3 kids). If we have a boy next I definitely would want to try for another so we at least have 2 siblings of the same gender. (This apparently "doesn't make sense" to some people. "Won't one of them feel left out?" I really don't think so though). DH said if we have another girl e would want to try one more time for a boy. So no matter what the gender is of the next kiddo it looks bloke we will be going for a third!
