Often times if you remove the offending protein for the first nine months of life, they can tolerate it (to varying degrees) as they get older and their gut closes.

I would make an appointment with your doc. It's probably not an emergency, but only your doc can know for sure.

Honest Lucy, I thought of linking her to your Teagan's Shigella thread when I read the OP. But then I was like he's just 1mo old, could be uric acid crystals.

Ya, I didn't want to incite panic by sharing our story. It was such a rare and unlikely infection for a baby. We're still dealing with the aftermath of that episode. In fact, Teagan is having a colonoscopy tomorrow morning.

Nooooo, seriously? Even now?

I thought it was over and done with and she was fine and dandy.

Re: Blood in diaper?!

Our son had blood in his stool at 6 weeks old. He was diagnosed with a dairy intolerance so I went off all dairy while I was nursing and filled up on other sources of protein (like egg) because I was constantly starving.

His reactions continued even after I went dairy-free because it turns out it was an egg allergy all along. I mention this because egg allergies can also cause bloody stool so it might be something to keep an eye on as you start introducing foods in the future.

Re: Blood in diaper?!

3 yrs ago, my lo also had bloody, mucusy, green stools (3 mo old). I was also told to go off of dairy. As I researched food allergies in infants, I realized that she had other symptoms I hadn't picked up on. Anyway, long story short, b/c I was breastfeeding, I ended up going off of dairy, gluten & eggs. As she's gotten older, I would "test" her tolerance. She's only now showing signs of being able to tolerate these foods. It's challenging, but not as hard as you think it's going to be. Just remember that, while it's helpful to hear others' stories, every child's own story will play out slightly differently. HTHs!!

A little update if anyone cares

Last night was the best night we've had so far. He went 4hrs b/t bottles, drank them in 20-30mins(down from 1-1.5 hrs), easier to burp him(and now they are reg baby burps not grown man rattle the windows burps), a lot less grunting and goaning and wiggling while asleep, and last but not least there has only been a very tiny amount of blood in one poopy diaper
