Re: Question about hospital stay
Quote:
My DD was in the hospital for her whole 5 months and trust me she wore clothes. She wore a ton of clothes. DS was in the hospital for 6 days and he couldn't wear anything in the Oxyhood (because it is hot and humid) but he could wear things once his UA line was pulled (umbilical line). I can't remember exactly what he wore for those few short days after that but I know he wasn't ever in hospital stuff... just like his sister. Good luck! I hope you don't get another NICU stay. Even if you think your prepared for them, they are never easy.

Re: Question about hospital stay
DS2 was in the NICU from day 2-21 and we were allowed to bring him clothes, we just had to wash them. I kept a bunch of onsies and socks in one of those plastic sterilite containers and just rotated/washed clothes weekly. I did bring my own A&A blanket that got "donated" to the hospital, didn't notice until after we left.
Otherwise baby mostly wore clothes we brought. I hate the shirts our hospital provides. They're the kimono style but super short with sleeves that are far too long. Super flimsy. And I hated their blankets too- too scratchy.

Re: Question about hospital stay
With Lyric she wore some long sleeve white onsies that her big brothers had made for her. I bought some fabric markers and they decorated them with her name and pictures. All the nurses commented on how adorable they were. I just put her in them and it was not mentioned other than their cuteness. I kept 1 from each of the boys. So cute and tiny.
ETA: I had a baby in the NICU for 2 weeks and when I came in one day they had his entire 11 lbs smooshed into a newborn size outfit. I almost couldn't get it off. After that I brought a small stack of clothes and left them for him and eventually donated to the NICU. Not all babies in the NICU are tiny!

Re: Question about hospital stay
With DS I dressed him, he never left me room though besides for his hearing test. I worked in the NICU and we were always fine with whatever clothes, as long as we could still access what we needed(if they had an IV, ect). Some parents didn't prepare for a preemie so wearing our clothes(we had a whole closet full of preemie and NB clothes, and thats what most wore rather then the white t-shirts) was easier then investing in premie clothes and having to bring them back and forth. It also lessens the chance of them getting mixed in with the units clothes and getting lost. Highly recommend writing initials or something in them if they're in the NICU!
