Used prefolds? Need mom advice!
I am expecting my first in may and am on a tight budget. I found some gmd prefolds on here used that are extremelyncheap but stained. Is there any way to get old old stains? Is it gross to buy used stained prefolds? Could I dye them if the stains don't come out?
Thanks for the help, I need it!

If the stains won't come out they are more than likely from rash creme than from poo, so IMO not gross. Of course they are prefolds so you can go so far as to bleach them to try to get the stains out. The only stains I've ever encountered that I couldn't remove were from rash creme.
If the price is right then I say go for it!

Put em in the sun to dry after washing! The sun is capable of amazing things
...if they don't come out, no biggie, you could dye them if you don't want to look at them.

If sunning doesn't work you could try an OxyClean Versitle soak. Some don't like that though.
I just got done dying a bunch of prefolds, if they do have some diaper rash staining some colors will leave marks where cream was. I'd pick a dark color like dark purple or dark blue. And Dylon dyes are the best. They're about $3 at Joanns for the smaller packs and will dye 2-3 prefolds each. If you use their 50% off coupons it's not too expensive. I did 18 for around $9.

I agree that the only stains that won't come out of cotton prefolds are from zinc based diaper rash creams. You can overdye them but the stains will not turn out the same color as the unstained portions of prefold. I use Dharma procion dyes, its super easy.

Re: Used prefolds? Need mom advice!
I've used plenty of non-CD safe diaper creams with prefolds and have always been able to get all stains out. If it's not from diaper cream, then the sun will work great for the stains. If it is from diaper cream, then a couple hot washes with extra detergent and some bleach should do it!
I agree that if you try to dye over the stains, the diapers will not dye evenly, but tie-dyeing them will camouflage stains nicely. I love dyeing prefolds, Procion dyes are my favorite.

Re: Used prefolds? Need mom advice!
I dyed several batches of prefolds (different colors...blue, orange & yellow) not for diapers, but for burp cloths several years ago and they turned out great! I just dug them out to use for our new lil man and they are still holding their color well.
