Okay thank you everyone! I will tell DH to put on his "over protective daddy bark" while I secure the child. I am more knowledgable then DH when it comes to a proper fit for the child.

Um yeah, Id tell them to shove it. If they threatened to call the police I would respond with a 'please do! They can tell you its illegal to drive with an unsecured child'.

I'd just prepare yourself to say "Do you really expect me to drive off with a newborn not properly secured in his/her carseat?" Because really I have a hard time imagining that they's keep pushing if you present the situation that way.
