So I may have a fast letdown, my daughter (6 weeks) loves to pull off the breast and scream as my letdown starts. I am having her seen for tongue tie Friday, hoping that may help, but have any of you ladies dealt with this, and how were you able to get it under control? I am soaking everything around us including my daughter. This is not fun! With my first I never had these types of things happen.

I dealt with over active letdown and oversupply. Different things worked for different kids. Blocked feeding worked very well for us. If you're pumping at all, stop!

And yes, two of my kids (that I know of) had tongue ties. One we didn't clip, one we did. I would clip again in a heartbeat!

Check out the website www.kellymom.com for suggestions too. I've had the same problem - my 4 week old was really fussy and gassy and I'd hear him gulp and choke on my milk. I have to pump to get ready to go back to work next month, so I can't stop that. So, I started nursing him while leaning back or lying down, so that the flow of my milk to him is more "uphill". I'd been bad about lying him "below" me with my breast above him, so gravity was only making the flow faster. This has made a huge difference.

I agree with the PP who suggested you look at www.kellymom.com. That website helped me so much when my daughter was born! I dealt with an overactive letdown and oversupply as well. Blocked feeding has worked best for us and I also would quit pumping if that is an option for you. Hope it gets better for you!

I dealt with over active let down as well and Kellymom.com was a great site for everything breast feeding! It's mostly in the early weeks that this is a problem because they are so small and the rush of milk is too much for their little mouths to gulp down. I tried lying back a little or would just hand express and catch the initial let down in a cloth before putting DS back on. It get better as baby gets older. I'm hoping I don't have it with number 2. It's annoying.

Leaning back or lying down to nurse. Don't pump. Catch the milk in a cloth diaper (prefold). Keep at it. It gets better as the baby gets bigger and also learns to handle it. Everything above ;-)
