I don't drink coffee so yes I think they are wasteful but DH loves his. Him being the only one that drinks coffee is a good reason to have it. We use the my K cup that you put your own coffee in so we don't waste to much.

We use an ecobrew reusable most days, but when we do use the Kcups, we put the grinds into the compost and save the cups to start seedlings in!!

I was of two minds when I used a Keurig. It might be wasteful, but then again I was the type to make a pot and drink a cup and leave the pot on all day. Then again, most people leave the Keurig on all day.

You can start seeds in the used cups if you clean them out.

The reason I moved away from a Keurig is because of all of that super hot and warm water sitting in plastic all day long. I was starting to feel like I was poisoning myself with leeched plastic chemicals. And they do leech. It's not a question of if they do, but whether those chemicals cause us harm, and I believe they do. So I find it difficult to think about using it. It's at the house we're trying to sell, for show. I'll likely sell it once the house is sold.

I don't leave my keurig on all day. I don't know anyone who does and a lot of family and friends have them. My mom leaves it on all morning though.

But if you were the type to forget to turn it off, some models have a setting to have it turn off after so long. You have to disable this when you descale if it's set (mine is not set as I'm OCD about turning off appliances).

I never see any reason to as it takes 1-2 minutes to heat up. I do have a friend who had to disable it though cause she'd forget to make her coffee and then it'd turn off and she'd have to start over, etc. hehe

I love ours... I wonder if anyone has found a good way to reuse the k cups for something else.
