Fashion and etiquette challeged mom seeks advice for wedding attire.

Going to a wedding on the 16th. Are dress pants appropriate? I hate my knees and I feel like an imposter when I wear a dress.
It's in the afternoon (2:30) if that matters.
Obviously indoors.
Not in a church, in the local university "Ballroom." I've been before and if memory serves, I'd say its a nice place that is often used for banquets and senior proms.
Any help is very appreciated!

Yes, you can wear pants. Is it like a pants suit with a jacket? What sort of top are you planning?

It's not part of a pants suit, but the style they are, they could be. I've got a slew of cardigans and jackets and planned on a solid colored nice shirt (I suppose that's what would be called a blouse).

Unless the attire for this wedding is cocktail or black tie, pants are just fine. Typically, if a wedding has a dress code, it will be noted on the invitation.

Dress pants are fine as long as they aren't too casual with dress shoes and a blouse. For an afternoon wedding I think a jacket isn't a necessity.

Absolutely dress pants are apropriate....as long as they aren't too casual and you wear a nice blouse or top, and nice shoes. You can always dress it up w/ earrings or a necklace too. I also have leg/knee issues and rarely wear skirts that aren't at least 3/4 length, and have worn nice pants to fancy occassions several times. But I love jewelry, will wear my hair up w/ some nice earrings and use a cute clutch, etc. Sometimes all that helps to "dress" an outfit up. I am sure whatever you are comfortable in will be fine. Besides, they invited you, not your outfit. I am sure they will just be happy you came!

Well, they didn't get enough invitations printed and invited the rest of their guests on Facebook events, so I'm going to guess it isn't black tie She's super sweet. We were co-workers for a white which led to bring friends. I'll totally squeeze my un-ladylike feet into my heels for her

And I'm glad I'm not the only one with knee issues. I look at them and I'm like, they're huge! Pants are more flattering. Plus, shaving meticulously isn't a requirement. Ha!

Thanks everyone, this is a relief.
