Is Singapore Math expensive?
I heard it's inexpensive, but the year is split in 2 parts so once you start 1st grade, there are 2 textbooks, 2 workbooks and 2 instructor's guides per year. Then I saw it's recommended that you also get the intensive and/or extra practice books, too. Wouldn't you be spending ~$100 per year plus manipulatives (which aren't required but may help some kids). Is it just considered inexpensive compared to Saxon or other products?

We are in 3a and have never bought the texts or the instructors manual. We buy the workbooks for $10 on amazon.

Our manipulatives are generally pennies, beans, paper clips... Stuff lying around the house. Honestly, of your child needs all the extra practice and long drawn out lessons, you should go with Saxon. Saxon is mind numbingly dry and boring for my kids. Singapore is pretty open and go. I rarely even teach a lesson to my second grader and just briefly describe the topic for my kindergartener. They are mostly self taught in math. The do some oral drilling or online drills for facts, but if they get the concepts I see no reason to linger.

Re: Is Singapore Math expensive?
We do HIG, text, wb, and CWP. It runs about $40 per semester.

Re: Is Singapore Math expensive?
I get mine directly from the site or used if I see it cheap enough. (It has to be a very good deal for me buy used because I have a strong preference for new.
![]() Here are the links I got my info from: http://www.singaporemath.com/Primary...US_Ed_s/39.htm http://www.singaporemath.com/Extra_Practice_s/149.htm Oh and subsequent children only need the workbook since you have the text and guide. So...$10 a semester, $20 a year.

Re: Is Singapore Math expensive?
Thanks! I've seen that. I wonder if it's something we should get.

Re: Is Singapore Math expensive?
I use singapore and don't bother with the "extra" workbook. When my daughter needed "More" we just grabbed some worksheets from education.com. Chances are your child won't need extra work for each subject.
I regret buying the "text" for 1st grade. We don't even use it. The workbook is all we need so far.
