Poor little guy! That doesn't look like normal baby acne. Whatever it is, I hope it clears up soon!

It's worth a shot, anyways. It actually is a really nice lotion, like for hands or body or whatnot, if it doesn't work for his rash. Not greasy, not smelly, just nice and very moisturizing. But it seems like a little goes a long way? We bought 2 big tubs, and even with using it all the time on DS2 and DS3 and DH those lasted us a year+. I usually take some extra $$ and pick it up at our area's winter fair - always a guy selling it there.

You can also google it and get it directly from their own site - usually they have bulk packs or other deals to save a few bucks.

Re: Newborn acne - new pic 2/4 in post #16

I have three hands here. On the one hand, it's normal newborn acne and it'll go away on its own after some indeterminate amount of time. I've had people see his pictures and say, "My baby looked JUST LIKE THAT and it went away by itself, seemingly overnight, but I can't remember when."

On the other hand, what if it is a food allergy and I keep waiting for it to go away by itself, but it just keeps getting worse and worse? At what point should I give up on it being just regular, normal newborn acne?

And on the OTHER hand (see, there's my third hand, lol), what if I try cutting out foods but I either cut out the wrong food or it's not food-related at all and I go through a few weeks of label-checking and it all ends up being for naught?

Right now, I'm just waiting. The midwife is going to see us again on Wednesday and I'll see what she thinks (at my last appointment, she suggested probiotics for me, and I've been taking those since Saturday but haven't noticed any positive difference in his skin). Then his next pedi appt is on 3/1 so I'll see what she says there, too. Then maybe after that, if he's still this bad, I'll go the food route.

Both my girls had raging cases of newborn acne.

I hated it.

An 8 yr old boy came up and said, "ZOMG WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR BABY'S FACE!!!?"

I wanted to say, "What happened to YOURS?!" But instead, I smiled patiently and said, "oh nothing, it's just a rash babies get sometimes, she's ok."

Then I went home and cried for 2 days. Stupid post partum hormones.

Anyway, my MW rec'd ACV on a cotton swab and just wipe off the affected areas a couple times a day. TBH, I'm not sure it made much of a difference at all. But it made me FEEL like I was doing something.

I think my girl's had that stupid newborn acne for, like, 3 mos. And they both have very sensitive skin also.

Poor baby - of my 3 only E had it that bad.... and i was totally shocked by it. Here is a pic of him at 1 month:

It had really just started to flare up then - and it only got worse. My camera went on the fritz and we don't have any pics of him again for another 4 months.... so no "worst" pics... but its similar to yours. It just went away on its own around the 3mo mark. My baby wasn't ever bothered by it though.... it just "looked" bad to me.

IDK what i would have done to change it though..... hope you find answer soon....

Just trying to help, mama.

Also, just remembered.... our first DD had it worst, and we were directed to bathe her in liquid Ivory soap. The plain stuff. We had to be really careful around her face for her eyes.

It's been a long time, so I can't remember how fast it helped, but I do remember being happy that it helped. Maybe that's a more viable option for you? Maybe not...

Either way, hope it clears up soon!

The first thing I would cut out first would be dairy, milk, cheese, etc, it could be the milk protein in cow's milk.
It wont hurt to not eat it for a couple of weeks, just to see.

Milk is in so many things w/different names.
Other names for cow’s milk:
Alpha-lactalbumin
Beta-lactoglobulin
Casein, rennet casein
Caseinate (ammonium, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium)
Delactosed or demineralized whey
Dry milk, milk solids
Hydrolyzed (casein, milk protein, whey and whey protein)
Lactalbumin and lactalbumin phosphate
Lacto-serum
Lactose
Lactulose
Lactoferrin
Lactoglobulin
Milk derivative, fat and protein
Milk solids
Modified milk ingredients
Skim milk powder, skim milk powder solids
Whey and whey protein concentrate

My dd has eczema and cradle cap because of the protein in cows milk.
I try to limit it as much as possible, but it can be difficult sometimes.

Aw poor baby! I hate trying to figure that stuff out too. I hope you get it figured out soon. I have nothing to compare it to personally, my kids never got much baby acne at all.

Thentix ordered today. A friend also gave me some shea butter to try in the meantime, too.
