How to choose a baby quilt?

I'm not familiar with the science of baby quilts, quilts in general. Could you please tell me what should I know, ask the seller about, when I want to purchase a baby quilt (for my 3rd baby my family wants me to choose one, as a present.)
I would like her to keep it as a keepsake (is that a proper term in English?)

I can answer that yes a keepsake is somethin you keep that is special. As far as baby quilts I'm no good with terms I've made my own but never learned proper terminology sorry

I would ask what kind of batting is inside, the size, whether it was machine or hand quilted, the type of fabric (cotton, minky, knit) and if it would hold up to machine washing.

What kind of batting would be best?
Which is - hand or machine quilting - better? And why?

IME 100% cotton or 80/20 cotton poly batting is best. It is less likely to beard and bunch over time. For a baby quilt that will be washed many times, I would highly suggest machine quilting and machine binding, since hand quilting Is looser and can weaken with multiple washing.
