Wet Pail?

I'm considering a wet pail for poopy dipes. We recently moved to CO, where we have hard water & a FL. Our dipes are stained badly with EBF poo. Repeated sunnings are not working. Sometimes the poop isn't really coming out in the wash too. I've tried RNG Hard Rock, Tiny Bubbles, now I'm trying Country Save.

Here is my current wash routine, every other day:

1. Cold Rinse with no spin. 2 squirts of Bacout added.
2. Delicate wash, warm, stain remover option (basically a 5 min soak). 1/2 tbs of Country Save, once a week or so I'll toss in some Oxiclean. Dump pot of water in after it fills.
3. Heavy wash, hot, stain remover & extra rinse option. 1 tbs of Country Save + 1/2 scoop of Charlies Hard Water Treatment. Dump pot of water in after it fills.

If I use more detergent it doesn't seem to help, & I also end up having to do 2-3 full wash cycles to rinse it out.

What do you think? Is there something I can tweak wash wise or would a wet pail help? Obviously once she starts solids I'll have to spray but IME there is still a little poop left. I thought about just spraying now but she poops eleventy million times a day & my hands are full with her & my 3.5 yo who's going through the most awesome behavior stage ever.

If I do a wet pail, what do you add?

I have a crap fl also and was getting ebf poo bits left after a lengthy wash

Now:
Gentle wash warm (to get off the poo)
Whitest whites cycle (hot) with pre wash and extra rinse
Then extra rinse x's 2

I also fill a pail with about 2 gallons of water and add it to the wash cycle.

Omit the gentle cycle. Even though it adds lots of water, it doesn't beat that poop off.

Have you tried a washing soda (Calgon?) to try and soften the water?

I line dry all the time pretty much. If I'm running out if diapers I may chuck them in the dryer to hurry up and get some ready.

I've also heard different reviews about country save.
Try another detergent? I use purex, free and clear but it needs lots of rinses too.

Re: Wet Pail?

Have you considered spraying and rinsing diapers before putting them in a dry pail? I would also use more detergent, but only do one rinse. It sounds like your diapers aren't getting clean enough and wet pailing them should be a last possible option... because standing water is a hazard with children, they are a breeding ground for bacteria, and they can cause wear and tear on your diapers, especially if they are made with organic materials at all.

My first thought would be to lose the hard water treatment and use more detergent. I would also try something other than the gentle cycle.

So you don't do cold water for the 1st wash? I always thought you were supposed to do cold for stains.

I'll go ahead & switch to a heavier cycle for the 1st wash. I haven't tried Calgon (can't find it around here, which seems weird since the water is so hard), but that Charlies Hard Water Treatment should be the same.

I can't line dry outside (apt dweller, rules against hanging clothes) but my apt faces the sun all day so I hang them on a rack unless I'm running short on time.

I've tried 3 - RNG Hard Rock (RNG Soft was my fave back in SC. I miss that soft water!), Tiny Bubbles (cleaned well but I got build up within 2 weeks), now I'm onto CS. I've thought about trying Charlie's - the local diaper store rec'd it.

Mainstream detergent wouldn't work I think - DD has really sensitive skin & couldn't tolerate Tide or any other F&C on clothes, much less dipes. I have her in wool full time b/c she can't even tolerate PUL.

Re: Wet Pail?

I had problems with country save until someone suggested I increase my detergent b/c of the hard water in Phoenix. I use almost a full scoop and have been very happy with it. I've also used Oxyclean spray and bac-out on poopy dipes after spraying. Disposable liners saved my sanity when DS hit solids.
