FYI: sodas and cellphones don't mix

It would seem that being submerged in soda is NOT good for a cellphone - who woulda thunk it? I had my phone in one section of the cup holder in the car, and stopped off at Sonic for lunch. Stuck a straw in my drink and put it in the other section, looked away to get my food out, and when I looked back, both sections were flooded with soda. Evidently I'd poked a hole in the cup with the straw. *sigh* My phone is now in a bowl of rice, in hopes of restoring it to life. If it doesn't work, well, at least it was a plain ol' cheap phone and not a smartphone.

Luckily, they took the ruined cup away and brought me a nice, fresh, full cup at no extra charge, so I got my caffeine fix after all

Hate to say it, but the sugar in the soda has probably made a brick out of your phone. Even if the liquid dries up, the sugar residue will screw up all the electrical contacts.

Cell phones don't like sugar. I know because I had an unfortunate incident involving a glass of sweet tea, my phone, and my son.

I stopped going to sonic because of the cups. My kids like the slushies, but they also like to poke their fingers through the styrofoam and spill aforementioned slushies in the car.

Ugh. Sorry about that... I hope that your phone is not ruined.

I forgot to update, and I know you've all been on the edges of your seats waiting to find out what happened. My phone is fine! [insert audio of angels singing] I think it helped that I wiped down all the surfaces as soon as I got it home, so the sugar didn't have time to really muck things up.

Yay! That's really unusual with soda. I'm so glad it's still working. Maybe being a not-so-smart phone helped with that.

Re: FYI: sodas and cellphones don't mix

I think non-smart phones (dumb phones, perhaps?) are more durable than their smarty counterparts.

My phone, super basic, free with service, type phone, has lived through being washed in the washing machine and dried in the dryer, being dropped in the toilet (which I feel like I should explain it fell out of my pocket- I wasn't peeing and talking), and then being washed in the washer again. I tried to dry it out in rice the second time it got washed in the washer, but after 3 days, it still wasn't reviving. So what did I do? The thing I accidently did the 1st time it got washed- threw it in the dryer with some clothes. It came out 45 minutes later, working and snuggle fresh.

Yay for dumb phones!
