I only have a 2 1/2 yr old DS. But I am dying for a frontier when he is a little older. I have sat him in the prosport, nautilus, and frontier 85.

The prosport is very narrow for an older kid, and the nautilus strap already seemed to be coming out under his butt/crotch at only 2 when I last set him in one. He is a big boy at the top of the charts.

There are too many complaints when you read reviews on the nautilus about the crotch strap not being set out far enough for older kids. I would never buy one personally.

Re: Help! which one to buy for older harnessed child?

Another vote for the frontier 85. We have one and we love it!

My Mood:
My 5yo DS strongly prefers the frontier85 in my car over the Nautilus in DHs car. It's all about that crotch buckle. And head slump.

We have Frontier 85s for our older two kids. I'm very happy with them. My oldest is 5, 32lbs, and 41in. My second is 2 months from 4 years old, 41lbs, and 40.5 inches. Obviously we don't need that much seat for the oldest, but she has some impulse issues, so I see her being harnessed for her safety for a while, so it will be helpful. My son is a big kid, has worn 5T/5/xs shirts for a while, so we will get our money's worth there too. But it's so easy to use, they can both buckle themselves, and it's a great seat.

Yep, this. We have a Frontier 85 for my son, that he doesn't mind at all. We tried a Nautilus out in the store and he hated it, b/c of the crotch buckle. It was way under his hiney and I can't imagine it being even a bit comfortable.
