Re: Deciding not to breast feed in advancei

I recently found this fascinating study done by the CDC and comparing different states and their rate of breastfeeding at birth, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months etc . . .

http://www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding/pdf...ReportCard.pdf

The 5 states with the lowest rate of breastfeeding (as in, those who never attempted) are:
Arkansas
Alabama
West Virginia
Louisiana
Mississippi

Ironically (or not so ironic) the top 5 least educated states are:
West Virginia
Arkansas
Mississippi
Louisiana
Kentucky

Comes down to culture, lack of education, and free formula handouts in my opinion.

I'm more than thankful that I've never needed donor milk, because I'm fairly certain I wouldn't find anyone nearly local.

As someone who's pretty pro breastfeeding, I took it the same way.

I needed donor milk and could not get it. I wanted it badly. I live in a small mining community pretty far from any cities. There are no milk banks anywhere near.

Well, if someone TRULY wants to find donor milk, they will. Better?

i have yet to meet someone who couldn't find donor milk for supplementation and trust me, I am pretty active in the mikshare community.

Anyone with a genuine desire to nourish their baby with donated milk, please PM me and i will help you find milk.

i haven't ever used a milk bank and have never paid for any donor milk. milk banks are REALLY expensive (around $3 per ounce) and they pasteurize their milk, killing the antibodies that make it so special and beneficial.

Anyone with a post office can get donor milk

I had no idea how to find milk then, but I promise you I wanted it. I was able to build my supply and the only milk my daughter gets is mine, but I still don't think I could have found donor milk.
