There is actually another way to "trick it". Run a rinse/spin before your load, but where the settings are for spin speed, choose no spin. It runs all the water out but leaves your diapers very heavy. Then start your normal wash and it will add extra water because it thinks you have a much larger load than you actually do. You will usually end up with at least a half a tub of water doing that :-)
