Hmm not sure, this is from their site

Recommended For:
Students with developmental disabilities or Autism
Students with learning disabilities
Title 1 students
ESL students
Preschool and kindergarten students who lack vocabulary development
Non-Readers who struggle with phonics

But I bet he'd love a computer "game" for reading. I should look into that more

We know a little boy that doesn't "get" phonics but does great with sight words so I was talking with his mom about a whole language approach. Personally I like phonics but I get that everyone's brain works differently

Re: Unschoolers~~~ Can you give me some insight? Considering loosing the curriculum

Oooh.....I see why you suggested it Ds actually does do great with the phonics work we've done.... the more Im reading the more Im realizing and learning, and I really think the problem is with the curriculum we're using. He gets it so quickly, and then the book work and reading is soooooo repetitve, it's pretty much the same exercises every day and ds is just sick of it.

This thread has been great to get my thoughts out and get feedback on them, and understand them a little more myself. I put myself on "couch rest" today because of cramping and spent so much time reading, and I think I finally hit a vein! I honestly was getting very discouraged and starting to doubt I could homeschool, and finally today I've found some programs and approach to homeschooling that I actually think might be right for us!

Im going to keep reading about the charlotte mason approach, and exploring options. We have a copy of "how to teach your child to read in 100 easy lesssons", and I may do that, along with something else if I can find something that looks good for us. Maybe that and whole language computer game or something. As long as we can do a quick lesson and move on, it will just work so much better

I'm struggling with this right now myself. I'm new to homeschooling and the traditional stuff wasn't working for us. I just ordered Oak Meadow and while its still a curriculum, its not your traditional curriculum. I'm really having a hard time just letting go and trusting that she's learning and where she should be without tests and report cards! But I'm working on it. She's almost 7 and I've always said kids learn more from playing and doing than by learning at a desk!
