LONG....newborn and 2.5 year old daycare question

So, I have a 2.5 year old DS and am due with DD in the next couple of weeks. I will take 10 weeks off for maternity leave (keeping both kids at home), and then return to work. I am having concerns about the optimal childcare situation for when I return to work.

DS is in a GREAT daycare. I love everything about it....except the fact that this winter he has been sick more days than not (seriously sick constantly from September-present) and I worry about him bringing home nasty germs (like RSV) to the newb. So you understand, DS had RSV as a babe and has been struggling with reactive airway (triggered by respiratory viruses-ie colds). So, when he gets a cold, its not just coughing and sniffles. Its breathing treatments all day, and many times at night too for a week at a time! So, its important to us to keep him well. We have a consult with a specialist in a month so hopefully we can get his airway issues straightened out.

DD- I plan to have a friend watch in a very small home daycare she runs.

My concerns: Im worried about 1) keeping both kids well (but especially about DD not getting nasty germs at a young age 2) DS's educational/social experience in daycare.

If Im worried about the transmission of germs, would it make sense to keep DS in daycare....wouldnt he just bring all the germs home to DD? (what have your experiences been?). If so, should I just have them BOTH switch to my friend's daycare? (what I worry about here is what DS might miss out on educationally/socially). I know he's only two, but his daycare is GREAT educationally, he LOVES his friends, and LOVES his teachers and I guess I feel a bit guilty taking him away from that if I dont have to). I know I will get more information after DS's consult about what we could be doing to help him stay well (maybe we will discover that keeping him in daycare OR pulling him out is the best option at that point), but Im just trying to get others' opinions on how you would handle this situation.

I guess Im asking....If you are trying to keep BOTH kids well, and optimize their daycare experiences (and mainly prevent DD from getting nasty bugs young and suffer through reactive airway like DS has been), what makes most sense for daycare???

thanks for reading this mini novel!
