Re: Wool dryer balls - want negative reviews too!
Well, that is a mystery then. I know a mom told me that with her particular detergent (I think Charlie's) she has no need for fabric softener. So maybe it is your detergent?
I went without anything for softening for a year, but some of my clothes just felt *awful.*

Re: Wool dryer balls - want negative reviews too!
I have six felted ones. This way if one or two disappear into the sheets before I get everything sorted and folded, I still have enough for the next load.

I made mine too big and they are so heavy they open the dryer and it stops working...no fun

Re: Wool dryer balls - want negative reviews too!
I used to use them, but realized that they did nothing to drying time & fluffiness. All they did was make a lot of noise. All of mine were WAHM ones that were yarn. several had roving felted onto the outside. the roving on those slowly wore off & they got bald spots. I once had one come apart in my dryer WHAT A MESS. I chucked all of them in the trash.

Re: Wool dryer balls - want negative reviews too!
Mine definitely soften and reduce but do not eliminate static. But if the drying time was your aim, yes, they are just "for fun."

IMO they do not work at all, though they are cute.

Re: Wool dryer balls - want negative reviews too!
Stay away from the yarn ones...when they come apart, they make a huge mess. They do seem to cut down static a bit, but no effect on drying time. Best thing to cut down dry time for diapers was to throw a heavy towel into the dryer to help tumble everything.
