Should I attempt a Moby to K'tan conversion?

I have a Moby which I loved for the newborn phase, but I really hate the wrapping (even though I got pretty good at it). So would I be crazy to try to convert my Moby to the K'Tan style? I am an intermediate level sewer and it seems to me I'd just need to make sure the seams are nice and strong (french seams appear to be the way to go) and then the extra fabric could be finished off for the sash. Anyone else ever try this? I did see the thread where someone made a homemade version just from fabric from Joanns, I just thought I could save a few steps starting with the Moby.

I made my own with Joann's Jersey! It's VERY VERY EASY!! I did the french seam zig zag stitch. I measured from my shoulder to the bottom of my ribcage and then doubled it for each sash. I did add two inches for the seam but honestly since it's going to stretch a bit with the weight of the baby the next time i do it I'm going to leave it at the exact measurements. Since the fabric doesn't fray you don't HAVE to fininsh the edges, but it's always nice! HTH.

The measurements help a lot, that was the only part I wasn't sure of, thanks! I also didn't realize it wasn't a fraying fabric, maybe I will just go for the joann's material I always have a coupon sitting around.

Thanks for the motivation! I hate the idea of hacking up the Moby really but I liked the idea of having a head start sort of... I think I'll be taking a trip to Joann's after naps tomorrow!!

I'm thinking about doing the same thing with my moby. I'm just not finding any info on the web on how to do it. I guess I'll just wing it!

I didn't love the one I made out of Joann jersey....the stretch just wasn't right (but I'm a sleepywrap gal and those are pretty stretchy even compared to a moby).
