Small head circumference?
I had an ultrasound at 29 weeks and the baby was measuring 27 weeks and 2 lbs 8 oz. I found out today that the head circumference is in the 10th percentile. I've been referred to Maternal Fetal Medicine and am waiting on them to call me. Anyone have any experience with this?

Re: Small head circumference?
My only experience was at my 37 week U/S my baby's head measured large (40 weeks) and when I gave birth two weeks later he was born with a head in the 7% percentile. The ultrasounds aren't super accurate so I wouldn't stress out yet.
P.S. He's 2.5 months now and in the 47% percentile. He's been lifting his head strongly since week 3 and rolling from tummy to back starting at 7 weeks ( both pretty advanced skills from what I've been told. Small head at birth has not been slowing him down! Good luck mama!

Re: Small head circumference?
Agree with above post. At my 20 week u/s her head measured a week smaller and at my 34 week u/s her head measured at 36 weeks. Measurements with u/s are not too accurate. I wouldn't loose sleep over it!

Re: Small head circumference?
My daughter was born with microcephaly. Her head was below the 5% for a long time. She had developmental delays and seizures. She's 19 months and currently meeting milestones and seizure free for over 1 year! It was a long road. Get a referral to a pediatric neurologist now!! They often have long wait lists.
(**Take Amino Acids ... I swear they helped! I started taking them as I BF and DD started to have head growth. Maybe it was a coincident but there are medical studies that show amino acids can help with microcephaly. It is just a protein vitamin. Ask your OB but I'm sure they would not object to you taking it. )
