Had our EI evaluation today.

She qualifies for speech, feeding and social skills. Starting thickened drinks asap. Swallow study to be scheduled. If they determine she has low tone after swallow study then we will bring on OT.

Re: Anyone have a child with dysphagia?

nak....yes. I'd ask for a swallow study, an evaluation with a slp or ot who specializes in feeding issues to evaluate oral tone and the ability to move food around in the mouth, and a nutritionist who can help you sort out meals if the dysphagia is really severe. Understanding that thin liquids and mixed texture foods are more challenging meant a revamp of our menu.

Ask for samples of the thickeners. Thick-it is disgusting.

Update:

She has dysphagia. We are now trying to find out why. She has a swallow study on Monday. Then 2 scopes that need to be done. One for her airway and one for GI. They are trying to rule out eosinophilic esophagitis.

She also is not hearing well at all because she has so much fluid in her ears, her balance is affected. We see audiology on weds to see the extent of her hearing loss and if it is reversible.

We are now doing speech, feeding and OT. Hopefully we will have more answers by the end of the week.
