Re: First veggie/fruit
We started with banana. I reacted badly to salicylates as a baby, so I want to wait a bit with avocado.

Re: First veggie/fruit
We started my DS on solids this past week. We offered him bananas the first half of the week and then avocado the second half. He loved both. Avocado is a great first food. It is rich in iron and easy to digest. I started my oldest DD on squash and started DD2 on banana. We skipped the whole rice cereal thing with all our kids. As for not giving them a fruit first due to it being sweet...breast milk has a sweet taste. So in my opinion they have already experienced the sweet taste. DS is going to try butternut squash tomorrow. YUM!

Re: First veggie/fruit
With ds, we started with mashed banana, then green beans and steamed carrots. Dd will be starting solids in the next month or two, and we'll probably start with avocado.

Re: First veggie/fruit
My DS is almost 7 months. He is EBF and I tried to start solids at 6 months with avocado. I was trying to stay away from sweet fruits and veggies so that he won't prefer the taste of sweet/sugar. I tried peas, avocado, green beans, etc. No luck. He now will only eat sweet potatoes, butternut squash and bananas. I make my own purees. Here's to hoping his taste buds will be more open to other flavors soon
I think he is used to sweet breastmilk and just likes foods that have that sweetness.

Re: First veggie/fruit
Pears bananas and apple. I want to try avocados! Shes only 4 months and the doc recommended we introduce fruits and cereal. I think it maybe too much for her though

Re: First veggie/fruit
After rice cereal, I started both my boys with peas. DS2 just tried them for the first time last night--so cute. DS1 is 6 and eats just about every veggie (except avocado, though he loved it as a baby). I think continuing variety in foods you offer and limiting empty calories is key as they get older. I don't buy suggestions that if you start with a sweet, they'll forever reject savory baby foods. I just wouldn't only offer sweet foods.

We did homemade carrots first and then sweet potatoes. She loved them both. She loves avocados as well.
