Re: Trying to Decide Between Two Trip Options...
Thanks, all. I don't exactly want to do the road trip, but being away from the kids for 7 whole days is about equal in torture, kwim?
Going a little further, though, is that, SURE, we're away from the kids, but we'll be with MIL the whole time. Ain't not a lot of 'relationship building" taking place with MIL in the next room or next bed.

Re: Trying to Decide Between Two Trip Options...
Could mil pitch in, you buy kids tickets, and all fly? It would still probably be the same price or less that way, and less stressful.

It sounds like a tough decision. Just wanted to chime in that when I was younger (your kids' ages) we lived in ND. My grandparents lived in TX we would drive down about once a year. My dad liked to drive through the night when we would be sleeping and we never got to stay in a hotel
I have fond memories of all the road trips. I don't think I'd leave my kids because I think it would be a good family trip however, I have left mine a week and if you totally trust the care givers and need the trip to be easier I say leave them.

I say road trip.
It will be warm enough you could camp along the way it usually costs me 10 to 15 a Night that way. Here a one room cabin is only 40 a Night.

DH and I talked about it a little more last night. We talked about shortening the trip and forgoing the sight seeing with MIL. We talked about bringing the baby, but didn't make any final decisions.
