We never had a changing table. We usually change on the living room floor.

Re: Changing table/area organization...
We do changes on the living room floor, or on our bed if we're in there (like night changes).
All the diapering stuff is in a laundry basket, fits under an end table by the couch: diapers wipes + container with wet ones wet bags prefolds (for changing baby on, and for mopping up spit up or spills!)

Re: Changing table/area organization...
If we had a nursery, we'd probably do that too. We just keep our diapers in the bathroom closet, or in one of those tall IKEA storage things in the living room.

We use our changing table for all diaper changes, dressing, nail clipping, etc. but we have a ranch house so walking to their bedrooms isn't an issue. I've had some messy diapers, I can't imagine changing on our couch or bed and I wouldn't want to keep towels, diapers and wipes throughout the house to just change anywhere.
We actually bought DS2 his own table so it can hold all his diapers and stuff as well as have the convenience of dressing him on it like we've always done with DS1.

it's almost always on people's 'pointless' lists. And we've been in 3 different 2 story houses since DD was born and I still don't mind going upstairs to do everything on the table.

Count me in as a table lover! We keep ours in the bathroom and its the only place i change. We have a big bathroom now so that may change in our next house.

Re: Changing table/area organization...
Me too. I don't even bother organizing them. Just chuck a few in a basket here and there and then there is always one available.
