Midwife gift ideas

There is a possibility that I will be the first delivery in a new birth center here - any ideas for unique gifts for the midwifes after the birth as a thank you. (There will be two midwives at the delivery)

Re: Midwife gift ideas

Hoping to hear some good ideas here.....

I've done gift certificates for mine before, but I'd love to hear something new and great.
Me DH married for almost 15 years, parents to 7 small people, so far.

homemade items like scarves, dryer balls, bookmarks. i don't think they need just "birth" stuff. I figure if they have been doing it awhile they already have a bunch. Nice notebooks. I made one with a picture of her from the birth on the cover through any photo place.

Re: Midwife gift ideas

We framed a nice maternity picture of me as a personal gift and I hand painted her a really fun henna inspired design that had her practice's name on it. Other ideas I have heard in the past are,

- prayer bead necklace or birth inspired jewelry.
- birth art or poems
- extra copies of positive birth books and movies so they can lend them out to new mothers, I know my midwife is always looking for more copies!
- donating a placenta encapsulation or starting a fund to help a mother who does not have midwife coverage with her insurance or is low income. (this was how we are getting our placenta encapsulated, it was a donation from a past mom).
- tickets to a showing of Ina May's newest film but that one is based on where you live, it already happened in my area.
- a nicely written recommendation letter with birth pictures for future clients

That's all I can think of right now

I hired a midwife as my doula. I gifted her gift cards to the movies and a restaurant so she and her hubby could have a date. She said he never gets to benefit from her being a midwife and they were thrilled to have their first date in over a year. not unique but I tried to find the right gift for her.

I'm not sure for one at a birthing center. A home birth midwife might realy appreciate getting gas cards considering the rising cost of gas eating into their profit. For a birthing center maybe a really nice photo album to put pics of babies they have delivered.
