Re: Anyone ever do an "Outside Isles Only" challenge at the grocery

I already shop like this. I rarely go to the center of the store. Most weeks it's a quick trip around the perimeter and I"m done. About once a month I have to stock up on stuff on the middle isles.

Re: Anyone ever do an "Outside Isles Only" challenge at the grocery

I'm getting more and more like this. Most trips I'm reading what's on the aisles and saying "nope, don't need this aisle, don't need that aisle", I love it! But we do have our weaknesses (hot cheetos for the kids, tortilla chips and salsa for dh and I!).

Re: Anyone ever do an "Outside Isles Only" challenge at the grocery

I do this the majority of the time. The only isles that see me are the baking, cereal, pb, and occasional the oriental. This week it was the chip isle but only b/c we're having taco salad and I need a snack sized bag of chips for it.

I only get canned tomatoes from the inner isles along with rice and cereal. IT works out great. The kids just eat fruit for snacks now. Oh and we do have a farmers market with meat, a deli, and produce along with a seafood market 2 blocks away.

No. There's still stuff I need on pretty much every aisle, even with making most of our food from scratch! Often I only need 1 or 2 things on each inside aisle.

I mostly shop like this. Sometimes I get spaghetti sauce, but not often. Mostly the only inner isle items we get are rice cakes, tortilla chips, and Larabars. That being said, the bulk section is on the outer isles, and I get oats, all baking supplies, pasta, rice, and my chocolate fix there. We also always have ice cream on hand, it's my one special treat I like to have when winding down after a long day with my kiddos. Oh, hummas is also an outer isle item, and we eat a TON of it. Anybody have a good recipe?

We do this mostly. That gives us fresh produce, fresh bread, all daily products, meat products, frozen goods (and ice cream!). Once every couple months I have to grab a gigantic bags of popcorn kernels and rice from the inner aisles.

I use this recipe for hummus. My family loves it. We substitute great northern beans for chickpeas sometimes. Delish!
