Are you sure you meant to get rid of this?

I just gave 4 more garbage bags filled with stuff to a friend and she sent me that as a message. She doesn't get why I would get rid of this much, lol.

We both have girls similar ages (she has a 5 year old and a 7 month old, mine are almost 5 & almost 1).

She LOVES getting things and going through bags/buying tons of stuff at thrift stores. I gave her the order to donate anything she doesn't want =)

I almost wish she wouldn't comment...cuz now I am second guessing...perhaps in a few years the new balance shoes will fit this kid even though the first kid couldn't get them on, etc.

Tell me not to go over and recheck the bags with her.

She sounds like the type to hang on to stuff, so when you are ready for the shoes, just text her and ask if she still has them! LOL I promise there are plenty more shoes where those came from. No need to horde stuff!

Maybe think of it as a compliment as in "wow, are you sure you want to give me all of these AMAZING items!"

And no, don't second guess yourself.

This happens to me all the time! I just have my sister literally a van full of toys/clothes that have been bagged up and not in use for along time, when I see how much she loves it-I want it back!

Then I take a deep breath and remind myself that I didn't need it, we already have to much and her kids will enjoy it.

When those issues come up just remind yourself how much more space you have in your home now that it is gone. The space is worth it every time!

Another approach is that when you do need shoes, you get to scratch the itch to shop and go buy shoes.

It'll be okay. I went through the hand me downs twice and pulled out so much stuff. The next time I went through looking for something, it only took a couple of minutes. It was worth it. And when the kids need something, I run out to OUAC or Target and get it all in one shot, no shopping around and buying other stuff I don't need. Well, mostly.

Re: Are you sure you meant to get rid of this?

She is totally a hoarder/collector of junk, lol. She was surprised that all of the clothing I gave her was perfect (& much of it columbia, osh kosh, puma, etc.) I don't care about brand name, she is a brand name lover. Most of the stuff was given to us by relatives anyway.

We went out shopping yesterday together (I just wanted out of the house) and we literally spent almost 5 hours in VALUE VILLAGE. She spent 90$ with 30% off and had just spent 70$ there on the weekend.

I bought one dress for me, a nightgown for dd1 - who refuses to wear anything other than dresses, and a pair of shoes that were brand new and the girls favourite colour. My total = less than 10$ and nothing that we wont use.

Shopping is a pitb here, we have to go 3 towns over to get to a walmart (45-50ish minutes) so we don't go often at all.
