clogged duct help!!

Yesterday I took 4-5 fenugreek to help boost my supply. DD is 13 months so it's dipped a tiny bit. Anyhow, I took the pills and went to work (4hr shift). By the time I came home, I was engorged! I have a rock hard and very painful lump on the outside of my right breast. About the size of a golf ball, maybe slightly bigger.

I have nursed and nursed and pumped and used a hot compress...and no relief. The lump is still there.

Someone please tell me some other ideas to rid this! I have taken fenugreek off and on since day one with no problems

Keep using heat, massage and nurse/pump. Mine usually take a day or two to start to clear. You can also see if you can find the clog and use a sterile needle to clear it

Thank you...the heat definitely feels better. I wasn't sure how long they take to subside :-)

Def use heat and massage the lump while nursing/pumping, its uncomfortable but will help

I used to stand in a super hot shower and hand express and push on the lumped area. The moist heat always helped it feel better.

Re: clogged duct help!!

fill bathroom sink or a bowl with hot water, lean into it and keep it there for 5-10 mins if you can do it. while in hot water massage it a bit, then nurse baby. do NOT nurse the same way you always do. put babys chin where duct is, yes this means possibly laying over your baby upside down to drain that duct.
works for me every time. i know its working cause it feels like a pipe cleaner is going thru that duct. it hurts but in a good way

Re: clogged duct help!!

Lay baby on her back and nurse on all fours so gravity can help. Yes, it's such a glamourous position:-).
Also, check your nipple for a tiny milk blister. If there is one, you can prick it with a sterilized needle and that should help it drain.

I'm not sure this is a clogged duct. It's not a knot, but like a 3-4 inch area that's just hard...like most of the breast is engorged and won't empty. Is a clogged duct a lump...or most of the breast?

Re: clogged duct help!!

For me it was a large section of the breast that stayed hard after nursing. I didn't feel a well defined lump.

I don't see any blisters, but I feel a pea sized lump under the areola.
