I had 5 KL0 with my son... I must admit I barely remember those days even 3 years ago but I do remember they were the ones I trusted first. My son wasn't a heavy wetter either but they were my goto.

I didn't use fabric softener and I don't recall them not being soft... that may depend on your water type. Personally I would recommend not adding to your wash routine unless you need to.. I know that ecover fabric softener is suppose to be okay but if you don't need it why risk it.
