Sewing my own woven wrap?

My son is 10 mo old and 21 lbs and way outgrown his moby wrap. I have an ergo carrier which I love but it doesn't beat the moby!

I was going to make my own that doesn't stretch for him. What type of fabric should I use?

If you're looking for something that is cool for the summer, some people use gauze I think. Subbing because I'm interested in other's suggestions.

Do you think gauze would be strong enough to work with a bigger baby?

Re: Sewing my own woven wrap?

i used a linen albeit from south america. anyhow it was strong enough and breezy for summer. I couldn't wear him as long and comfortably as an expensive woven wrap but good enough for my purposes and the price was right for the trade offs
I also had a gauze wrap that someone else had made. I liked it okay but it wasn't supportive enough for me to be comfortable with a larger baby like you are talking about

Gauze is okay, but I prefer 100% linen, a linen-cotton blend, or Osnaburg. Some people make shorter wraps out of tablecloths too.

I will look into the linen. Gauze would be great because we live in the south and it's so hot!! But I just picture it ripping and him falling out lol

I made one out of 5 yards of flannel and love how soft it is. It is strong enough to hold my 21-lb girl on the hip, front, and back (crossing 3 times for back). I've heard Osnaberg is good and linen. You'll want to really feel the fabric in the store to make sure you're comfortable with it and to see how much diagonal stretch it has. Buy extra length because will shrink some in the wash. Wash before you cut and sew!! Have fun

I just made one of guaze and I feel it's plenty sturdy enough for my 23lb 11 mo old. But I don't think it's soft enough . Seems to cut into her legs. I wish I would have went with linen. It does seen to breath well though.
