How to get my 1 year old to take a bottle.

My Daughter is turning one this week and with summer approaching I'd like her to start taking a bottle for the nights I play soccer so my DH can feed her.

Ive tried many bottles: nuk, tommy tippe, playtex, ect..

When we have breakfast, lunch and dinner i always put a sippy of a bottle to just try and get her to take it.

I can never go out and do the groceries or just meet up with a friend for coffee because she on BF so I have to wait till she's in bed for the night.

HELP

I would just use a straw sippy. Much better for her mouth and teethat that she and less confusing for a baby who is used to breast.

At a year I'd introduce a sippy cup and skip the bottle altogether
Also at a year she wont starve if you go out. She'll take a cup/sippy/bottle if shes hungry without you there. If you are there though, she is much more likely to not take anything but straight from the tap.

I never figured it out. Both my boys rejected mama milk from an artificial container by or before 12mo. I work full-time, so had to learn to just let it go. Neither boy ever starved from refusing to intake anything while I was at work all day. They just nursed all night to make up for it .

That's normal for an EBF kiddo--she probably thinks you're offering her a teether. Try offering a sippy with the valve out the first few times. It'll make a mess, but she'll figure out there's milk in there!

At a year, a bottle definitely isn't worth the hassle it will take to switch her over to a cup by 2. I would just go right to the sippy.

Re: How to get my 1 year old to take a bottle.

She will be fine, go to soccer & have fun! My dd has ALWAYS refused bottles. I started working again pt when she was 6 months old. I usually took a break about 3 hours in to nurse her. She just turned one & I can do 6 hr shifts no problem.

Dp watches her when I am 'gone' (I work in the basement)...sometimes she cries a little more than she would for me to go to sleep but dp is with her. I'd give water in a sippy cup & some food when you're away (unless soccer is often 6+ hours)...she will make up for it when you're around.

Go get groceries,, go for coffee - she will get used to daddy & it will be fine. Maybe have him put on a ssc or throw her in the stroller to go for a walk with him the first few times. She isn't a newborn anymore.

It's a hard transition for some kids. Have you tried diluted juice? Because it's sweet, it might be more of an incentive to drink out of a sippy cup.
