does this carrier exist?

recently tried a beco. LOVE the support! I have just a normal mei tai, and my 23lb 12 month old always seems to SAG in it after long walks. His butt is just not supported - there's no thick waste band like in the soft structured carriers I've seen (ergo, beco, etc). But I've tried looking up more expensive brands of mei tais, and it seems like no mei tais with those thick, supportive bands exist either. I don't like buckles. I LOVE my mei tai, I just want the best of both worlds!? Does this carrier exist??

Maybe you would like a half buckle carrier- they usually have a buckle waist like a SSC and long shoulder ties like a mei tai. There are also padded waist mei tais, but those waists still are typically less structured than a SSC.

Where do I find one like t hat? I've searched and not been able to.

No, never tried a woven. I'm areally short and it'd probably be super long, and prefer to keep it simple. Plus, I want something that baby can at leastd get a little air on the sides like the mei tai - mei tais alone can get pretty hot and I know I've read wovens are even hotter.

A wrap-conversion mei tai is probably the way to go. They often have them for sale on the FSOT boards on thebabywearer.com .

Obimama is a super popular brand right now, but they run a gazillion dollars a piece (okay-- like $400-700)... but there are others out there... e.g., Two Mommas Designs (google for a link)

A lot of half buckle carriers are customs, but there are a few mass-produced ones. Here are two:
http://www.frogmama.com/all-new-ange...lf-buckle.html
http://www.frogmama.com/all-new-oh-m...-babyhawk.html
Here's a used one on DS:

You could also look at the FB babywearing swap and the FSOT boards at thebabywearer.com, there are usually some used ones listed there.

Re: does this carrier exist?

Whoa! Customs are way out of my price range, so instead... I'm going out of my comfort zone, and am going to try a woven wrap! Already got a well broken in one from b/s/t babywearing swap group, and anxiously awaiting my fluffy mail!!!!!!!

I AM going to probably purchase a babyhawk mei tai for my sister as a baby shower gift, so I'll get to try hers out. I loved my mei tai, LOVE the concept of mei tai (wrapping, without allllll the wrapping required for woven wraps), I just don't think I was super skilled in sewing and I truly think a good one would make all the difference.

I think bamberoo makes MT's with structured waists--perhaps that is what you are looking for
