I'll be 10 weeks on Sunday. My doc says it's safe but I'm just wondering if everyone else's doc thinks it's safe?

ETA: Did I even spell that right, diflucan?

Re: Is diflican safe?

If it is Diflucan (for a yeast infection), my doctor wouldn't give it to me last week at 22 weeks as she said it wasn't 'safe' during pregnancy. I'm in Canada.

Re: Is diflican safe?

My doc told me to use Monistat instead...I got the 7-day & had pinkish spotting for the first 3 days...I couldn't take the anxiety & felt quite a bit better so I stopped using it. No symptoms since. I gather the light spotting is fairly common w/ the Monistat while pg, but it still freaked me out.

I've used that twice and it's not gone. Doc wants me to take diflucan but I'm nervous.

The pregnancy category for a single 150 mg dose of fluconazole for vaginal candidiasis is category C based on data from animal studies that showed an adverse effect on the fetus. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of fluconazole in pregnant women. Available human data do not suggest an increased risk of congenital anomalies following a single maternal dose of 150 mg.

If I had a yeast infection that hadn't cleared w/ Monistat, I'd verify that the Dr. only wanted the 150mg dose & I'd probably take it, then I'd invest in a good stock of yogurt to help the diflucan & prevent more infections.
